Bio:
At Columbia, during a post-baccalaureate program, and at NYU, while completing my Classics Ph.D., I was lucky enough to take independent studies in the Hebrew Bible under several top biblical and literary scholars. Since then I have worked on the language of monotheism in Genesis and on comparative cosmogonies with Near Eastern and Greek myths. I am a native Hebrew speaker, but do not have a depth of reading in modern Hebrew literature, unfortunately. I also have a longstanding fascination with Kafka, although less expertise than I would like. In these difficult times I have been focusing on modern Israel-Palestine, including working with the Shoah-Nakba Research Focus Group. I work to support internationally and bring to our campus real dialogue with stakeholders from “the Land,” Israel-Palestine, such as Salt of the Earth. For further examples of my scholarship and long-term social justice work, including on campus, please see my Classics profile. I would be glad to speak with students about any of the fields mentioned above or there.
