Professor Kalman received her Ph.D. from Yale University in 1982. She is most interested in twentieth-century American history and legal history. Her publications include Yale Law School and the Sixties: Revolt and Reverberations (University of North Carolina Press, 2005), The Strange Career of Legal Liberalism (Yale University Press, 1996), and Abe Fortas: A Biography (Yale University Press, 1990). Her current research focuses on the U.S. from 1974 to 1981.
