Bio

Professor Marcuse received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1992. His research focuses on modern German history, and he employs the “reception history” approach in his teaching methods. Professor Marcuse is also interested in cognitive development and how it affects teaching history to students. His publications include Legacies of Dachau: The Uses and Abuses of a Concentration Camp, 1933-2001 (Cambridge University Press, 2001) and "Die Museale Darstellung des Holocaust an Orten der ehemaligen Konzentrationslager in der Bundesrepublik, 1945-1990," in Erinnerung: Zur Gegenwart des Holocaust in Deutschland West und Deutschland Ost (1993).
